PROJECT LEADERS

Harriet Corbett PR and Communications

I’m a second year Environmental Sciences student at UEA. I lived in Singapore for eight years before coming to university. While there I was exposed to volunteering along with different countries and cultures. READ Book Project enables me to fulfil both of those interests! I was a volunteer last year and travelled to Tanzania over the summer, meaning I was able to see the project through from beginning to end! READ is unique in that sense! Although hard work, Tanzania was an amazing experience which cemented my belief that a small group of students can make a fundamental improvement to education on an international scale.

Kate Barnett Think Global

I am in my second year at UEA studying International Development. I have always been interested in International newd and global issues and I am passionate about learning about different countries and coultures, having recently travelled to Japan, Zambia, Morocco and Ecuador. READ is an amazing oppertunity to actively make a difference, helping both to promote education in Tanzania and to encourage recycling in the UK, whilst raising awareness about problems faced in developing countries. The initiative is particularly special due to the fact that it's main body consists of students dedicated to a good cause. Volunteering for READ is a great chance to meet new people and make new friends. Though a challenging task, being part of READ is very rewarding and perhaps most importantly, lots of fun!

BOOK COLLECTION

TEXTBOOKS

We are in the process of contacting schools and arranging our first Book Collection Week of 2009. We envisage collecting about 50,000 which must all be sorted through in order to source the very best and up to date books for shipment to Tanzania. If you are an educator, or work in a school, or simply have some textbooks you want to get rid of, please get in touch and we can discuss logistics!

OUR NEXT BOOK COLLECTION WEEK:- MONDAY 16, NOVEMBER - FRIDAY 20, NOVEMBER 2009

BETTER WORLD BOOKS

An exciting collaboration is happening this year with Better World Books (BWB). All the books we collect that aren't suitable for shipment to Tanzania are sent to BWB, who sell them online on our behalf and we can reap the profits! There are now collection boxes all around the University of East Anglia campus so please bring those books along you don't need anymore! You can find the boxes at:
