Why?

Why East Africa??

READ International began life following a students 'gap year' teaching in Tanzania who was shocked at the lack of educational resources available to students and teachers there.

By supplying hundreds of schools and libraries with books we want to see improved academic performance in schools, with access to high quality educational resources; we want child literacy rates to soar; and we want thousands of people to benefit from them.

Our success in Tanzania led to our Ugandan expansion - all Welsh and Scottish projects will deliver books to Uganda, whilst the English projects remain linked with Tanzania.

Tanzania and Uganda are two of the poorest  nations in the world. In Tanzania 90% of the population lives on less that just £1.50 per day.
