Our School Speakers will come to your school to deliver our stand alone workshop and then provide you with the plans, PowerPoints and worksheets for the subsequent five workshops, which will take students through the planning stages of an action.
The first two workshops focus on the issues, whilst workshop three looks at the characteristics of an effective action. Workshops four and five focus on creating resources and the practical aspects of planning, while workshop six will evaluate the action.
Our School Speakers will be more than happy to return to your school after you have completed the scheme of learning to give the students feedback about what their action has achieved.
READ can support and provide feedback for the following actions:
Every 50p raised can send a textbook to East Africa, so your students can easily see the difference they have made. They will also learn more about our work and how to plan and carry out an effective fundraiser. Our School Speakers can offer support and, if requested, will return to your school to give feedback on the results of your hard work. If you raise over £2000 one of our members of staff will come and give a presentation, as a way of saying thank you for such a fantastic donation.
We will make good use of any amount your school is willing to donate, but below are some common breakdowns to give you an idea of what your money can achieve.
Redecorate and furnish a library £270
Supply a school with books £392
Refurbish a library and fill it with books £1504
Thanks to our partnership with Better World Books we can now collect ANY kind of book, which is then either sent to East Africa, or re-sold or recycled to generate funds. By carrying out a Book Drive your students will help supply schools with the books that will be used in the daily education of thousands of East African students. We will supply you with Book Drop Boxes and advice to help you and your students run a successful book drive. To find out more about running a Book Drive please email us at schools@readinternational.org.uk
Sadly, it is not just access to books that poses a problem for the world's students; some don't go to school at all. While books can help improve the quality of education in East Africa, we also support campaigns like Send My Friend, which aims to ensure that every child gets a quality education, wherever they live in the world. You can join the campaign, pledge your support and involve your students by signing up on the SMF website. They will provide you with a resources pack and lesson plans to get you started.
